Well done to Joan Williamson and Samantha Sharman Viral Hepatitis Clinical Nurse Specialists, who supported a collaborative testing event at HMP Leeds. The aim was to test as many people for blood borne viruses including the Hepatitis C virus, then treat all positive cases within two weeks and eliminate Hepatitis C from the prison. In total 757 people were tested for the virus with 34 cases identified and these have been discussed at a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting to agree a plan for treatment. It is great to see our teams collaborating to make a difference including working extra hours to ensure the success of the project – well done to everyone involved in this fantastic initiative!
